Work for students

Currently, about 300,000 foreign students study at Russian universities. Some of them receive the support of their parents, while others have to rely only on themselves. Rental housing, food, travel, entertainment… Given the size of student scholarships, working outside of school is the only way to pay for all this. But is it so easy for a foreign student to find a job in the Russian Federation? Let’s talk about this in detail.

You don’t need a work permit!

From the second half of 2020, after the entry into force of amendments to Federal Law N115, foreign full-time students have the full right to work without a patent or work permit.. Moreover, their employers are not required to obtain permission to attract and use foreign workers. This is stated in paragraph 4 of article 13..

This simplification applies only to those who are studying full-time, according to a state-accredited program, in professional or higher education organizations. You can work during the holidays and in your free time. This law does not apply to students of correspondence and part-time departments. The same applies to those who undergo additional educational programs (retraining, advanced training, etc.).

Representatives of universities believe that the amendments will make it easier for students to find internships and internships. And with this, foreign students often have difficulties.

Which organizations can hire international students?

As mentioned above, employers of foreign students do not need to obtain a special permit from the migration authorities. This means that any company or sole proprietor can offer a job to an adult foreigner studying at a Russian university.

However, this relaxation does not cancel other procedures related to the employment of foreigners. For example, the need to notify migration authorities about the conclusion and termination of an employment contract remains in force. In addition, if a foreign employee completes or quits his studies in the Russian Federation, the employer is obliged to terminate the employment contract concluded with him, since with the change in the status of a foreigner, the requirements for its registration also change.

When hiring foreign students, the Ministry of Internal Affairs strongly recommends that employers demand from them a certificate from an educational institution confirming their status. In the migration card, such applicants for a vacancy should have a study. And if we are talking about a visa foreigner, then his visa must be educational.

The certificate must be issued on the official letterhead of the educational organization and supported by a seal.

In June 2020, the Avito portal. Job conducted a sociological survey among young people aged 18 to 24 years, during which respondents named the three most popular vacancies: salesman, cashier and waiter.: pixabay.com
